Chatham University is a private university that enrolls over 2,200 students across over 60 undergraduate and graduate programs. As the alma mater of environmental pioneer Rachel Carson ’29, sustainability is a cornerstone of Chatham’s mission, operations, academic offerings, and impact. Chatham is a signatory of Second Nature and is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2025. In 2018, Chatham achieved net-zero scope 2 emissions and joined the Pittsburgh 2030 District as an affiliate partner.

Opened in 2014, the 388-acre Eden Hall Campus is home to the Falk School of Sustainability & Environment and is the world’s first university campus designed to be a showcase for sustainable solutions. The campus is powered by 400 large solar panels that generate 126,000 kilowatt hours annually. All buildings are constructed to meet LEED Platinum certification, and there are plans to construct buildings that meet the Living Building Challenge standards in the future.
