Carlow University is a private, co-educational, Catholic liberal arts university located in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood.

Carlow received its first LEED Certification in 2016 for the campus’s University Commons. The 82,500 square foot renovation project of Grace Library expanded the location’s purpose while decreasing energy and water use and increasing the building’s air quality. The building features a curtain wall window system that uses advanced window technology called SageGlass to improve energy efficiency and maximize natural daylight.

Carlow University is committed to creating a culture of sustainability that permeates all aspects of the campus experience for students, faculty, and staff. Carlow is a Pittsburgh 2030 District member and joined 600 other institutions in signing the Catholic Climate Declaration in 2018. The Benevolent Living Upon Earth (BLUE) campus organization is dedicated to raising awareness about healthy, holistic living, green initiatives, and environmental change.
